Warriors on the Water April 15 -17, 2009
This
will be the fourth annual Warriors on the Water
event. This event was established to show
appreciation to our Military Men and Women.
This event is three great days for our Military men
and women as well as the boaters and volunteers who
are all part of the
event. Check out the Golden Knights Army Parachute
Team jumping into my boat as part of the opening
ceremonies on Jordan Lake, NC in 2008!
Please go to
the link on the front of my website to learn more
about this great event. If you would like to
volunteer, sponsor or be a boater for next year,
sign up now!

April 12, 2008. BFL
Kerr Lake
I had a game plan that I would
go to old haunts as far as Kerr was concerned. This
a year that I have not had the time to be on the
water that any good fisherman should have! I met my
partner at the BFL meeting on Friday night. We
talked about how each of us had been doing as far as
practicing for the tourney. Right then he assured
me that he was on numbers of good fish. Now the
cardinal rule for any boater is you brought it, you
fish it! In other words, I brought my boat and paid
the bigger entry fees to do so. This means that the
co-angler goes where I want to. Well there was
something about Randy from Va. that made me believe
he was sincere about his fish. I told him that I
would give my area a dead line and if nothing worked
out, we would go to his spot. Well as luck would
have it, my great area went dead on me early. I
stayed true to my word and I looked at him and said
I hope you are right because I have never done this
before! You should always listen to your gut
feelings and mine was right about Randy as I ended
up with four keepers and Randy with three as well.
As far as the tournament went, we had a great day,
because I was open minded and not too stubborn to
try something different. I also made a new friend
on the BFL trail and that is a great thing about
tournament fishing, you get to meet some great
people.
Keep on Rippin'

Summer Tactics for Surviving
the Heat
It's easy this time of the year to
think of relaxing with a cold drink and lying in a
hammock for a restful nap instead of fishing a grueling
tournament in the heat of July! So how do you deal
with the heat without becoming a casualty in nearest ER?
Stay tuned!
First off, HYDRATE HYDRATE
HYDRATE! It is easy to lose 5-7 lbs of water
weight during a typical tournament in the summer.
That rapid a loss of fluid can cause a severe shock to
your body and nasty things can happen like Heat
Exhaustion or Heat Stroke. The best thing to ward off
these dangers is to maintain sufficient hydration.
But don't wait until the tournament blastoff to start
your fluid intake-that's too late! Start your fluid
increase the afternoon before the tournament and
continue it until well past the ride back home.
Next, cover your skin! Wear a hat
(preferably with a big brim and neck cover). Also, long
sleeves in light colors are actually cooler and much
safer than just sunblock. Speaking of sunblock-USE
IT! SPF 50 or higher is necessary on the water and not
just on bright sunny days! U-V light damages skin
and can promote skin cancers, so protect yourself.
Finally, find some shade
periodically. Constant exposure to the sun can cause
long term damage to your eyes, face and skin and the
oppressive heat can literally fry you! Be careful,
take breaks from the sun, cover your bare skin
appropriately and use sunblock.
Good luck fishing,
